Easy and Straightforward Tips to Applying For A United States Passport
Applying for United States passports can be very exciting if you’re getting a passport for the first time to travel to an exotic and exciting new country. Having your own passport allows you to go outside of the United States and travel the world. Traveling around the 50 states does not require a USA Passport Application, but you do need one if you want to expand your horizons by going to another country. As you know, all immigration offices around the world require a proof of your identity and citizenship before you enter their territory.
Perhaps some friends of yours who travel have given you the idea that the passport application process is something to worry about. It does take a bit of time and you will need to fill out a US passport application and provide other required documents, bring all this paperwork to your local passport agency or acceptance facility. A little patience in this process goes a long way.
You also need to appear in person in the following conditions: Is this your first passport or are you under 16? Is your current passport more than 15 years old or were you under 16 when your first passport was issued? Are you replacing a stolen, damaged, or lost passport? Has your name changed and you don’t have legal documentation for the change? Any one of these conditions would require that you appear in person.
Aside from the other requirements, applicants of US Passports also need to fill in the US passport application form, submit US passport photographs, and present a proof of identification. After that, there’s the processing period before you get your passport. This is part of the normal routine of applying for United States passports, so don’t let this worry you.
How long does it take to get a passport? The actual processing times will often vary, depending on several factors such as the passport agency’s current workload. However, routine passport processing typically takes four to six weeks.
Now, how to expedite passport applications if you need to travel in less than four weeks? For such a situation, there are expedited passport services that cut the waiting time for those who need their passports as soon as possible. For this type of service, you would need to pay an extra $60, in addition to all the regular passport fees required. The benefit is that the usual four to six week waiting time is cut to just two to three weeks.
Obtaining a US passport is quite inexpensive for what it allows you to do. The current rates for a passport application are $95 for applicants under 16, and $120 for people 16 and above. For expedited passport services, additional charges will apply.
Taking just a bit of time to gather the required paperwork, including the New Passport Application, and having just a little patience earns you the unlimited experience of seeing the world.
