SAM HUTSBY, England, 21
The look: Junior golfer.
The story so far: Walker Cup graduate who is hungry to emulate the professional success of his friend and one-time England team-mate Chris Wood.
Achievements: Top scorer for GB&I in 2009 Walker Cup and runner-up in 2009 British Amateur Championship.
Best main tour finish: Eighth in the 2009 Castello Masters
What he says: “I know the level Chris (Wood) plays at and him nearly winning the Open has given me more belief.”
Did you know? After competing in the 2009 Walker Cup he had just three days to fly around the world to make his pro debut in the Kazakhstan Open. He made it but his clubs got lost in Moscow. He was eventually reacquainted with them minutes before his first round tee-time.
Where he could shine in 2010: Sam won the 2006 Spanish Amateur title and has also thrived in Spain on the European Tour. Keep an eye out for him when he heads for sunny Spain again.
Strengths: Fearless putting – he takes aim at everything on the greens and is currently holing enough of them to not worry about the consequences of missing the odd one.
Main aim in 2010: To follow Wood’s lead and make the end-of-season Race to Dubai.
How to make money on him in 2010: He is evens to make the Race to Dubai and 7/2 to win an event (Sky Bet).
AMANDA BLUMENHERST, USA,23
The look: All-American blond hair and big smile.
The story so far: Much talked of as a golfing talent, she put a full-time university career ahead of turning pro. Odd to think she is the same age as Paula Creamer and yet her rookie year is anticipated so much.
Achievements: US Women’s Amateur Champion 2008, winner of the 2010 LPGA Q School 2009 and double Curtis Cup winner.
Best main tour finish: Fifth in the 2009 CVS LPGA Challenge.
What they say: “She is successful because she is passionate. It’s the only way she operates. She loves to be in contention. She thrives there.” – Dan Brooks, her golf coach at Duke University.
Did you know? Amanda would like to swap places with Keira Knightley in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Strengths: Her “balanced” approach. She swears by it. She insists that golf is not the be all and end all, but she also believes that doesn’t stop her maximising her ability – if anything it helps her remain fresh and motivated.
Main aim in 2010: Young American ladies golf needs a boost (only six Americans finished in the top 20 at Q School) and Blumenherst can join Michelle Wie in prompting a revival.
How to make money on her in 2010: She is 11/4 to win on the LPGA this year and 2/1 to win Rookie of the Year (Sky Bet).
AZAHARA MUNOZ, SPAIN, 22
The look: Elegant European.
The story so far: Talented college and amateur golfer who won on her first pro start – the 2009 Madrid Masters.
Achievements: 2009 British Amateur Champion, 2008 US Amateur runner-up.
Best main tour finish: Winner of the 2009 Madrid Masters.
What she says: (On winning in Madrid) “This is just the beginning. I’m going to keep on practising and trying to get better with my golf clubs.”
Did you know? Aza played her US college golf at Arizona State with Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist whose own rookie season in 2009 reaped two wins on the LPGA Tour, including a major.
Where she could shine in 2010: Look out for her in the Mexican events (there are now three on tour and the Europeans have done well in them, perhaps she’ll feel even more at home with the language). She also likes links golf so remember her name for the Ricoh British Open.
Strengths: Fearless. Going low in the final round in Madrid held no terrors for her, nor did taking on major champion Nordqvist in the play-off: she hit a 6-iron approach into the par-five 18th hole and holed out for a winning eagle.
Main aim in 2010: To settle in to life on the pro circuit as comfortably as her old team-mate Nordqvist managed in 2009.
How to make money on her in 2010: She is 4/1 to win on the LPGA this year, 7/2 to win Rookie of the Year and 25/1 to emulate Nordqvist in winning a major (Sky Bet).
